Among a number of other standards, ASTM A606 Type 4 defines the requirements for high-strength, low-alloy, hot-rolled and cold-rolled sheet and strip steel with improved atmospheric corrosion resistance. The standard is intended for structural and other uses. In comparison with common structural carbon steel plates, ASTM A606 Type 4 is four times more corrosion resistant than Type 2.


A proper treatment of this material improves its weldability, formability, and machinability. The ASTM A606 specification is the Standard Steel Specification for High-Strength, Low-Alloy, Hot Rolled and Cold Rolled Sheet and Strip Steel with Improved Atmospheric Corrosion Resistance for use in structural and other applications.
