Since installation, the biogas unit has treated over 1,400 tonnes of waste from the market and vegetables to generate 34,000 m3 biogas, which has been converted to 32,000 units of electricity. In all, Bowenpally Market has received over 10,000 quintals of vegetables including 4,000 quintals of potatoes, 784 quintals of green chillies, and 1,000 quintals of cabbage. On Monday, tomatoes were sold at a low price of Rs 6 a kg in vegetable markets like Bowenpally Market, while in the Rythu Bazaar, they were sold for just Rs 8 a kg. The throwaway prices were fixed by the market committees and farmers, since a massive glut was left unsold by the end of the day.
